About

Hi, I’m Pam, a pre-med college student, McNair Scholar, and aspiring physician who believes that care goes far beyond medicine. I write to reflect, to connect, and to share the human side of healthcare, culture, and everyday growth.

I immigrated to the United States from Myanmar, and I carry my cultural values, especially family and collectivism, into everything I do. Whether I am working in healthcare settings, conducting public health research, or mentoring peers, I am always asking one question: What does it really mean to care for someone?

Why I Started This Blog

I wanted a space to share the experiences that have shaped me in ways a resume or transcript never could. From working as a CNA to leading community health initiatives and navigating college as a first generation student, this blog is where I reflect on what I have learned through lived experience. It is a place to think through moments of growth, uncertainty, and service, and to explore what life continues to teach me beyond the books.

🌏Culture, Identity & Becoming

Being born in Myanmar and growing up as a first-generation student in the United States has deeply shaped how I see the world. This space explores how culture, family, and identity influence who I am becoming, both personally and as a future physician, through reflection on belonging, responsibility, and growth.

🌱 Health, Equity & Social Context

This category sits at the intersection of health, identity, and systems. I’m Pam

Welcome to Beyond Books, a space where I share the real lessons — the ones that don’t come from lectures or textbooks. I’m a pre-med student who loves sharing what I learn and believe in lifting others as I grow. I don’t believe in gatekeeping — whether it’s knowledge, opportunities, or insight. If it helped me, I want it to help someone else too.
